The focus of this literature review is to look at how the topics of ‘digital technology’ ‘loneliness’ and ‘isolation’ inter-relate. Research findings are mixed with examples of how going online for specific purposes, particularly to maintain contact with existing family and friends and to access information (which is increasingly only available online) can help some older adults to feel less isolated and lonely.
