Join us in addressing the pressing issue of digital poverty by donating your (or your organisation’s) old or unused devices such as laptops, smartphones, or tablets to the Digital Poverty Alliance.

By partnering with strategic suppliers, we ensure that all devices donated are recycled responsibly, while those in good condition are refurbished and redistributed through our projects and networks, to people in need. Together, we can make a significant impact on ending digital poverty and empowering communities. The suppliers we use have ADISA accreditation, ensuring that they have demonstrated full compliance with information security best practice, and are able to provide standard documentation to you around the devices to show they have been fully wiped. Anything that can’t be reused will be recycled – again with a full audit trail as needed.

📱💻 Why Donate?

Many individuals and communities across the UK struggle with digital poverty, lacking access to essential technology and internet connectivity. By donating your old devices, you can contribute directly to our proof of concept projects that aim to tackle this issue. Your generosity enables us to provide the necessary tools for individuals, schools, teachers, and prison leavers, opening up new opportunities and fostering digital inclusion.

What donated devices can mean to people

Those in need…

We do not have the money to buy my son a laptop. He’s in college, really smart, and has the chance to do well, but he needs a laptop.

Our family does not have access to a device, which is crucial for both learning and securing employment.

…and those who’ve received devices

I am so grateful to the Digital Poverty Alliance for providing my family and me with a laptop. The laptop has helped me to access online learning which has helped me to improve my learning but also, I have made learning so much fun through websites, such as Rock Star, Numbots, Lexia, etc as I was able to play while learning too. This has made me eager to learn more. With the laptop, I am also staying connected with my friends through video calls and games. I am thrilled that although I cannot see my friends face to face as I would during school, the laptop has made it possible for me to interact with my friends and have so much fun.

This laptop has opened up so many opportunities for her. It is helping with her homework and helping her improve her maths skills on a game they use in her school, which we previously didn’t have access to on our mobile phones as the game wasn’t compatible.

Our Ideal Spec for Laptops

While we appreciate every contribution, we do have particular specifications for devices that can be refurbished rather than recycled. Devices that meet our refurbishment criteria, such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets in good working condition, allow us to extend their lifecycle and maximise their impact. These devices undergo thorough evaluation, repair, and sanitisation processes, ensuring they are ready to be redistributed to those in need. If your device meets the refurbishment requirements, it can directly contribute to our mission of ending digital poverty and empowering communities. Rest assured, any devices that do not meet the refurbishment criteria will still be responsibly recycled, minimising environmental impact.

Sometimes there are devices that don’t meet these criteria can still be helpful. If you have a large number of devices that don’t quite meet these specifications, please let us know.

  • CPU: i3 or i5 Must be minimum 3rd Generation.
