At the Digital Poverty Alliance, our mission is to end digital poverty and ensure everyone can benefit from the opportunities of the digital age. We are pleased to announce a significant milestone in our journey: the launch of our Charter for Digital Inclusion. 

The Vision Behind the Charter

The Charter for Digital Inclusion is more than a document; it’s a call to action for organisations across the private, public, and third sectors to embed digital inclusivity into their daily operations. By signing the Charter, organisations commit to at least three of the following impactful actions: 

1. Raising Awareness: Amplifying the understanding of digital poverty and its extensive impacts. 
2. Accessible Services: Ensuring digital services are user-friendly and accessible to all, including individuals with disabilities. 
3. Device Donation: Encouraging the donation of digital devices to those in need, helping to close the technology gap. 
4. Digital Skills Development: Providing resources and training to enhance digital literacy and skills across communities. 
5. Partnerships for Impact: Collaborating with other organisations to maximise efforts and achieve greater impact collectively. 

Why This Matters 

Digital poverty remains a significant obstacle to social and economic inclusion. It’s not just about lacking access to technology; it’s about the broader issue of digital literacy and skills, which are essential in today’s interconnected world. By addressing these issues, we can help ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to thrive in the digital age.

We invite organisations to join us in this critical mission. By signing the Charter for Digital Inclusion, your organisation can make a tangible difference in bridging the digital divide. Together, we can create a society where digital opportunities are accessible to all. The Charter is for any organisation, big or small, that employs at least two people.  This initiative invites organisations from both the public and private sectors to make concrete commitments to promote digital inclusivity.  We have focussed on cultivating robust partnerships and securing actionable pledges that drive measurable outcomes.

UK Digital Inclusion Awards

The UK Digital Inclusion Awards recognise organisations taking practical action to address digital exclusion across the UK.

Grounded in the Digital Poverty Alliance’s Charter for Digital Inclusion, the Awards celebrate the work delivered across five areas of action: raising awareness, accessible services, device donation, digital skills development, and partnerships for impact.

For 2026, the process has been made easier. Organisations that have not yet signed the Charter must do so by 30 June 2026 to be considered for a UK Digital Inclusion Award. No separate awards application is required.

Existing Charter signatories do not need to sign again. They will be contacted directly and asked to complete a short update form, giving the Digital Poverty Alliance the latest information about the work they have delivered and the progress they have made since signing.

The Charter is open to organisations of all sizes across the public, private, and third sectors, provided they employ at least two people. Signing the Charter is free, and there is no cost to be considered for the Awards.

Winners will be announced and recognised at this year’s End Digital Poverty Day Gala Reception on 10 September.

2. Authorisation: Confirm the authority of the individual signing the charter.

4. Acknowledgment: Upon receipt, the Digital Poverty Alliance will acknowledge your commitment, and engage you on next steps.
5. Showcase Commitment: Once confirmed, we will welcome your organisation into our coalition.
