Currys – Digital Poverty Alliance Partner.

Who we are

From founding the UK Digital Poverty Alliance to running our Good Deed Day in Greece, our community work is a collective effort from everyone at Currys. We want everyone to be able to enjoy equal access to the benefits of technology.

Here at Currys we pride ourselves on bringing technology to more people through our competitive pricing, access to online and physical stores, and affordable and responsible credit offering. But that’s not all: because our social purpose is at the heart of what we do, we also support causes that help those who might otherwise be excluded to benefit from amazing technology.

Operating across the UK & Ireland, the Nordics and in Greece, our approach is tailored to meet the needs of each specific region and their relevant socio-economic conditions.

Our support

We’ve donated £1 million to The Learning Foundation to help progress their ‘Digital Access for All’ (‘DAFA’) initiative. To cement our commitment to tackling the digital divide, we became one of three Founding Partners of Digital Poverty Alliance alongside Digital Access for All (DAFA) and the Institute of Engineering and Technology (‘IET’). Our aim is to tackle digital poverty in UK within the next three to five years, starting with education.

We started our support by equipping 1,000 teachers and teaching assistants in the country’s poorest communities with the technology and support they need to deliver high quality home-schooling to their pupils during the pandemic. These teachers are in turn helping us to form a community of ideas and best practice.

Our Mission

At Currys we’re fully committed to operating a responsible business. We talk to our stakeholders about their expectations, we search out best practice and we reflect these in the decisions we make. Our key focus areas are as follows:

  • Giving back – we partner with charitable organisation to bring the benefit. ofamazing technology to those who might otherwise be excluded.
  • Digital equality – we want everyone to be able to enjoy equal access to the benefits of technology.
  • Keeping tech working – we repair 1.9 million products a year.
  • Recycle your tech – encouraging people to bring their old or unwanted tech into store to be recycled or reused.
