End Digital Poverty Day is a nationwide initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the pressing issue of digital poverty in the UK. We invite you and your organisation to join us in our collective effort to work towards ending digital poverty and empowering individuals and communities.
The Crisis of Digital Poverty
We define digital poverty as the inability to interact with the online world fully, when where and how an individual needs to.
Access to digital enables us to connect, learn, work, and access vital services. More than ever, not having access to the digital world means not having access to fundamentals of life, with a significant portion of the UK population lacking the necessary resources to participate fully in the digital world.
Digital exclusion can exacerbate existing inequalities in society or introduce new inequalities. Those without access to digital resources face barriers in education, employment opportunities, healthcare, and social inclusion.Â
Why Does End Digital Poverty Day Matter?
End Digital Poverty Day on September 12th, 2023 is an opportunity for us to come together as a nation and address this urgent issue head-on. By dedicating a day to this cause, we can raise awareness, promote practical actions, and rally support from individuals and organisations to make a tangible difference.
What can you do?
End Digital Poverty Day is a call to action for everyone to contribute to the solution. Here’s how you can get involved:
Spread Awareness
Share the message with friends, family, and colleagues. Utilise social media or local networks to spread awareness about digital poverty and encourage others to join End Digital Poverty Day. Share educational resources, personal stories, and success stories to encourage action.
Run Events
Organise events in your community or online, to raise awareness and educate others about digital poverty. It could be a workshop, seminar, or panel discussion focused on the challenges faced by those affected by digital poverty and the solutions we can collectively implement.
Attend Events
Participate in local events, workshops, and webinars organised across the UK. Attend events to show your support and contribute to the collective effort in addressing digital poverty in your community. Let’s come together, share knowledge, and create a future where no one is left behind.
Fundraise
Launch a fundraising campaign or event to help us raise funds to support initiatives that provide technology, internet, and digital literacy programs to disadvantaged communities. Why not run a bake sale, no uniform day, quiz, sponsored activity or even donate 1% of profits on the day.
Volunteer
Offer your time and expertise to local initiatives and organisations working on digital inclusion projects. By volunteering, you can help bridge the digital divide and empower individuals with digital literacy by teaching digital skills, providing technical support, or assisting with resource distribution.
Contribute a Blog
Write a blog about why ending digital poverty matters to you and/or your organisation. Share your blog directly with us to publish on the Digital Poverty Alliance website, or simply share it on social media using the hashtag #EndDigitalPovertyDay and tag us in the post.
